The initial tone of the painting was established on a stormy afternoon in autumn.
An indigo glaze was then applied with some white added to bring out the clouds.
Now is the time to start selecting what I need to include and what to leave out of the composition from the signs of the summer occupation on the beach.
After adding some background texture and about four more glazes of transparent colour the landscape is starting to take on some depth.
The tide line is formed and the old log which has served as a seat next to the fire site is added.
Stone texture is added in two stages using white and an indigo glaze and ridges in the sand highlighted. More vegetation is then added.
Detail is now added throughout the painting. It can be seen from the wires still attached by staples to the log that it was once a fence post.
The half deflated rugby ball, Anzac poppy and blue bailing twine holding the roof pole of the shelter were important items left behind at the end of summer.
